Är idag ett konstmuseum i centrala London, öppet för allmänheten idag, men tidigare hem till Sir Richard Wallace och hans hustru. Sir Richard Wallace ärvde sin fars, Markis Richard Seymore-Conway, privata samling och huset vid hans bortgång och förvaltade det sen väl. När hans hustru donerade huset och konstsamlingen så var ett villkor att inga konstverk fick säljas eller lånas ut, så har det förblivit. Dock har man i delar av huset idag andra utställningar som komplement till den egna konsten.
Samlingen har nästan 5500 verk och är känd för sina 1700-tals franska målningar, porslin och möbler. De har målningar av Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dycks samt guldaskar, miniatyrer och skulpturer. Vi blev guidade och hon berättade om utvalda delar av samlingen och det var intressant att höra historia bakom objekten. Alla objekt har köpts in genom auktioner och valts ut av ägarna själva.
Efteråt gick vi på Nordic Bakery och åt riktigt gott rågbröd och en soppa. De hade även semlor men de var med blåbärssylt så jag motstod fast de såg vansinnigt goda ut.

It’s today an art museum in central London, open to the public, but the former home of Sir Richard Wallace and his wife. Sir Richard Wallace inherited his father’s, Marquise Richard Seymore-Conway, private collection and house when he passed away. When Sir Richard Wallace’s wife died she bequested it to the nation but one of the conditions in the bequest was that no objects should ever leave the collection, even for loan exhibitions. In the house today they do host other exhibitions as well as a complement to their own collection.
There is about 5500 objects and they are mostly famous for their 18 century collection of French art, porcelain and furniture. They also have paintings by Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dycks as well as gold boxes, miniatures and sculptures. We were guided and she told us about selected objects in the collection and it was very interesting to hear the story behind them. All objects have been acquired through auctions and picked out by Marquise Richard Seymore-Conway and Sir Richard Wallace.
Afterward we went to have some lunch at the Nordic Bakery where we had a really nice soup and rye bread. They also had Lent buns but they are supposed to come with almond icing mixed with cream and these had blueberry jam I didn’t get one – but I have to admit they looked fantastic.
