Paris in February

Peter and I went to Paris many years ago and the kids were not allowed to come. We didn’t want to bring them as we didn’t want to listen to “I’m hungry”, “I’m tired”, “I’m thirsty” etc etc…. We had planned to see all the point interest these days and it was long days. We then promised the girls that we would take them another time when they were older and the hotel wasn’t the most interesting.

Paris is only 2,5 hours away by train from London and Peter found some really good deals that suited us very well. What we missed was the small detail that Emelie wasn’t off from school just Felicia., so it was just the three of us going.

We left around 8 in the morning and took the tube to King’s Cross St. Pancras and from there took the Eurostar, shortly after lunch we arrived in Paris. As Peter and I had seen the most famous points of interest Felicia was the one in charge this trip. After dropping our bags off at the hotel we walked up to Sacré-Coeur through Montmartre and passing Moulin Rouge. At the church we saw all of Paris, well in Februay the weather isn’t that clear but we saw the central parts of Paris. The queue for entering the church was quit long and as Felicia isn’t that impressed by churches she looked at it and decided it wasn’t worth it. We started to walk down the hill and walk over Seine and to Notre-Dame and looked at the outside. Felicia was happy just seeing it from the outside and she was the one deciding.

We left early and arrived at the Eiffel tower just when they opened and didn’t have to queue, not for entering or the elevator. It was very windy in Paris and when at the top you had to hold on to your hat or you’d have lost it and as it was just 4 degrees C (39F) it was cold up there. When leaving the Eiffel Tower, we walked over to Arc de Triomphe and down Champs Elysée, where we had some lunch in an alley. It’s much cheaper and easier to find a table when leaving the main street. I had some French onion soup to get warm again. We continued down the Champs Elysée to Place de la Concord and the Luxor Obelisk, we continued through Jardin de Tuleries to Louvre. Felicia wanted to enter the Louvre but when she saw the line (hundreds of meters long) she changed her mind, especially when we told her that Mona-Lisa is small painting. We continued to walk around and looked in some small stores before we took a tour on Seine. It was really nice to see the sun set and then how the Eiffel tower being lit up. After this we were very tired and decided to go back to Place de Clichy where we were staying to have dinner, it feels nicer to eat near the hotel then you don’t have to be tired and full getting home.

Last day we had decided to go to the catacombs as Felicia had heard a lot about it and really wanted to do that. Peter and I hadn’t done it so we also wanted to go. It was really interesting and nice – but also scary with all these bones stacked nicely. Felicia made sure she was walking in the middle of the passage and didn’t think we had to drag it. She and I was then going to do some shopping. According to her you can’t go to Paris without shopping. While we were doing the shopping Peter went to get our bags and met us at Gare du Nord in time for us to be able to have some food before boarding the train. At check in we got our seat number and then the hassle started, they had to change some seats and apparently they didn’t have a good organization because all of a sudden we our seats were given to someone else. Time was running, we told them that we still hadn’t got any new seats and to compensate us we were upgraded to first class. Had food and wine – thank you!

Emelie will go to Paris in fall when she is done with school.
