Vi åkte till Canterbury över dagen och skulle besöka katedralen där till Felicias stora glädje (hon verkligen älskar allt sådant). Det tar nästan 2,5 timme att köra om trafiken inte är alltför hemsk.
När vi anlände så regnade det och vi tittade lite på en gammal fornlämning innan vi bestämde att gå och fika för att slippa regnet och muta vår yngsta dotter. När vi fikat klart så sprack det upp och solen kom fram, alltid mysigare att stå i kö och turista när man slipper bli kall och blöt.
Katedralen började byggas 1070 och det är en imponerade byggnad, man blir så imponerad över storleken och vetskapen att då fanns inte de hjälpmedel som finns idag. Katedralen klarade sig ganska så bra under världskrigen, man valde att ta ner alla fönster och lägga i källaren samt att ha eldvakter som försökte motverka de brandbomber som tyskarna släppte 1942.
Det är en fantastiskt fin katedral med en imponerande historia och värt resan dit, även om Felicia tycker att kyrka som kyrka =)
Efteråt gick vi längs med kanalen in mot centrum innan vi åt och körde hemåt igen.

We went to Canterbury for the day and wanted to see the cathedral to Felicia’s delight (she really loves doing this things). It takes almost 2,5 hour to go there if the traffic isn’t too bad.
When we arrived it was raining while we looked at an old ruin so we decided to go and have something to eat to get out of the rain and bribe our youngest daughter. Once we had had some coffee the sun came out, its always nicer when the suns out when you are standing in lanes and doing sightseeing.
The cathedral was built in 1072 (it started then) and it’s a magnificent building, the size is impressive especially as you know that they didn’t have the tools and support we have today. The cathedral survived the world wars fairly well, they chose to take all the windows down and put in the basement as well as they had firewatchers doing their best to save as much as possible.
It’s a fantastic beautiful cathedral with an impressive history and worth the trip to go there, even if Felicia thinks otherwise.
Afterward we walked along the canal towards the city and had some early dinner before heading home.
